I am happy to have found, and now, share this video of one of my favorite painters, Joan Miro. It is comprehensive and chronological. 90 years of living packed into a concise 50 minute review, enjoy.
Maybe something shook me or maybe I am motivated. Just starting to fuss over a few paintings that have been standing still. The work in progress paintings below were inspired one day driving past two guys fixing a truck in their driveway. I have done that lots with friends, my brothers, my father and step father.
I am doing them on an art board with clay finish (first time for me). Been scraping at it as well as painting which leaves interest etches and lightens the color. All six of my latest paintings use only Neo Megilp medium from Gamblin here in Portland. I use a 80 / 20 proportion of medium to paint most of the time. With this mixture you see alot of brush strokes piled up and I would say they are 50% opaque.

I know lots of people with trucks. Heck I have one.
This painting is very dynamic and I relied heavily on white to balance a large red space in the center of the bottom half (not shown). I cropped this detail because everyone comments on this section first.

- People have been drawn to this section. Upper right corner.
This is a young painting. I like some sections of it but haven’t found “the glue” just yet. Doing a better job with the abstraction but need to commit to larger fields of color and not so many small marks. This is an 8 inch section of a 5ft painting.

I took these using a macro lense, so they are extreme close ups or one section of a color study. The goal is to find strong color relationships and give inspiration for future work.

I don’t like it when paint cracks and then dulls. I don’t like it when whites yellow especially when I need them to stay white white. Using neomegilp with poppy oil I made the white area in the center of this picture. I had about 2/3 neomegilp 1/3 poppy oil. Then I mixed that combo into about 1/8 as little pigment. Thin, wet, cracked look when I laid the painting on its back.

I found an image and manipulated it in Photoshop to create this scene. I then set out to painting it. I want it to seem metallic and reflective.

This Bear was stopped by the test of time
I give myself some rules with different paintings to help develop my skill set. This one I made myself work very quickly like playing drums.
This painting is less done. This bear is half dead half alive and struggling to stay alive.

Made this from my office window on 4th and Oak in Portland Oregon. It is peaceful to me, and I like how things appear and vanish. This reminded me to post a link to Freendull’s Youtube Channel. It is as good a way to get to know me as any I guess. Very silly stuff, and some pointless talking. I have a computer full of footage and once a month or more I boil it all down into something funny.
Be on the lookout for Baba Ranks my next feature film.
