This is the final studio wall before we took the hammers to it. I started this right at the beginning of using this studio space and it was many things over the years. The left side was inspiration for sketching and observing different lighting. The right side was layers and layers of drawings, doodles, painting, parties, frustration, and studying.
The roof had to be repaired, and the new space is going to kick ass. See my photography page for details.

I enjoy making light drawings using long exposure times and various light sources. The key is to do it at night or in a dark space. I use a Nikon D70 and in manual mode set the shutter to 4 - 20 seconds and execute whatever idea I have. You almost always get better results with more people.
The image above was made in photo shop, but the image below shows the raw image before photoshopping. I made the raw image by putting LED lights into a shopping bag and then making sweeping movements in front of the camera outside at night. I had my wife taking the pictures free hand to washout sharp edges. Because of the high contrast and solid black you can change your photoshop layer mode to “lighten” and then all the black falls away and you get interesting intersections of light.

Peter deRosa is a having an opening at La Merde tomorrow April 1st. Very interesting large detailed black and white pieces. It will be a fun time.

I had a great time seeing everyone and appreciated all the support. I have added photos to the photograph page. The paintings are up for the rest of March.

Travels, Color and Rhythm
I have just completed 5 new paintings inspired by recent travels. I am always agonizing about color, and trying to keep the painting rhythmic, animated and sometimes musical. The 4th is going to be fun, hope to see you there! Special thanks to Don Olsen for encouraging me to have a show, and Peter DeRosa for getting me a venue!
